silent witnesses

We all heard the bullets,
menacingly whooshing by,
and we saw them slaughter
silence’s innocent offspring-
we tossed and turned,
uneasy in our sleep,
but we couldn’t wake,
and couldn’t stand,
We just hoped it to be over soon
and closed our eyes
